About this item: Nestled between South Africa and Mozambique is the small kingdom of Swaziland. With its 1.1 million inhabitants, the country is primarily known outside of Africa for its annual Reed Dance festival (Umhlanga).  Each year, tens of thousands of girls travel to the Queen Mother's village and present her with reeds. More recently, and controversially, the ceremony has been used by King Mswati III as an opportunity to select an additional wife.

The 10 Emalangeni note displays both Kind Mswati and the Reed Dance. This note also displays  the motto "God is our Source."  Like all new Swazi banknotes the 10 Emalangeni note is made from a mixture of paper and polymer, which gives it a glossy texture. You can receive an uncriculated example of this 10 Emalangeni note from 2010 for just $4.99.  It is a fascinating piece of modern history and will make a great addition to any collection. Quantity discounts available.

250 Dinar Banknote From Saddam Hussein's Iraq

These uncirculated notes are priced at only $4.99, which includes free shipping to the U.S and internationally! Buy it now through Paypal.

Order now for only $4.99.

Quick Facts:
Country: Iraq
Denomination: 250 Dinars
Material: Paper
Year of Issue: 1995

About this item: This 250 Dinar note is easily my most popular piece of foreign currency. It's hard to find a modern piece with as much history or notoriety. Adorned with a prominent portrait of Saddam Hussein, these notes were in circulation in 2003 when the U.S toppled the Iraqi regime. Many soldiers took some home as trophies and many outside of the military purchased a few as mementos of a bygone era. This is one of the few items that is at least as popular with non-collectors as with collectors. And it's east to understand why.

These notes were printed midway between the first and second American wars with Iraq, and their hist spans both. Prior to the first Gulf War, the Iraqi Dinar was worth several dollars, but the war and ensuing sanctions devastated Iraq's economy and the value of its currency. As the dinar's plunge continued, the government was forced to print ever higher denominations of banknotes. The sanctions were so pervasive, that by the time this 250 dinar note was issued in 1995, even banknote quality paper was unavailable within Iraq. These notes were printed on the locally available thin, low quality paper, which was all that was available to the government.

These notes feature Saddam Hussein's portrait and the National Stadium on an Arabic front, and cave drawing from Iraq's distant past on an English back.

Brunei One Dollar Note With Mispelled Denominaiton

These uncirculated notes are priced at only $3.99, which includes free shipping to the U.S and internationally! Buy it now through Paypal.

Order now for only $3.99.

Quick Facts:
Country: Brunei
Denomination: One Dollar
Material: Polymer
Year of Issue: 2011

About this item: Brunei's new Dollar bill is one of 2011's most attractive banknotes. Replete with images of tropical fauna, famous architecture, and a portrait of the Bruneian monarch, these polymer banknotes were printed in commemoration of the 65th birthday of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

These notes are intriguing for a reason besides their design, however.  In the upper left hand corner of these notes appears what, at first glance, looks like a stray green dot.  It is actually a braille number, or rather an attempt at one.  In recognition of the difficulty that blind individual face when handling identical feeling notes of different denominations, Brunei decided to include braille inscriptions on its new banknotes.

Unfortunatly for anyone hoping to distinguish the bills apart in this way, the printer neglected to raise the dots before as they were being produced.  The result: a braille inscription that online the sighted can use.  What's worse, the dot in the upper left corner of this $1 note does not actually correspond to the digit 1 in braille.  The inscriptions lacks the special symbol that would indicate that a dot is a number and note a letter, but as was noted, the mistake probably won't confuse anyone since it cannot be felt.

Brunei's new $1 makes a fascinating oddity for numismatists: a country that let a spelling error slip by onto its currency.  This will make a great addition to any collection.
